Scientific Advisory Committee - SAC

The figure of the Scientific Advisory Committee is central in this project. Its constitution is based on the transnational project strategy to gather most relevant cultural and scientific knowledge linked to the great Atlantic explorations’ legacy.

By setting up an Scientific Advisory Committee supporting most project activities, the partnership is awarding a scientific caution for the project. Each project partner is dully represented in the Committee and contribute to gather all academic and community-based strengths linked to the valorization of the Atlantic nautical explorations in their territories. This means to replicate the network at local level in order to involve a large range of stakeholders and experts. Other worldwide experts from Atlantic areas not covered by the project are going to be associated to the Advisory Committee.

Project activity 1.1 develops the project research programme to provide scientific contents on the Great Atlantic Explorations. Framework and the orientation of the research programme will be resulting of a participatory process among partners and experts. The main objective of the Scientific Advisory Committee is to contribute to the set-up of the new Cultural Route of the Great Atlantic Explorations. The new Cultural Route is basically built on the knowledge brought by the partners for sharing local cultural heritage.

After the participatory process, a transnational strategy will be issued and the corresponding Action plan performed over the project duration. This way, we proceed to a joint development in line with the expectation of the project activities. The capacity of the Scientific Advisory Committee to afford the project scientific requirements has been well tackled. Therefore, a set of institutional agreements and conventions will be granted by the project partners.

They address specific partnership agreements to strengthen the local management of the Scientific Advisory Committee and international agreements to sum the collaboration of organizations and experts outside the cooperation area.

The figure of the Scientific boards and networks of knowledge as recommended by the Council of Europe Cultural Route is represented in this project by the Scientific Advisory Committee SAC focus on research and development delivered by groups of multidisciplinary experts from different regions of Europe and based on consensus.

SAC Commitments

Research linked to the Great Atlantic Explorations Cultural Route: A research programme is issued along with the strategic and action plan. This programme identifies the fields of investigation most relevant for the Great Atlantic Explorations Cultural Route. It also determines which organizations among those belonging to the Committee or regional networks are going to support the joint investigations.

Publications: A set of publications will be issued of the activities performed by the Advisory Scientific Committee.Publications are first linked to the research programme but also cover the actions performed by the scientific and cultural regional networks.

Scientific background for the multimedia documentary on the Great Atlantic Explorations Cultural Route: The production of multimedia (videos and podcasts) focusing on the Great Atlantic Explorations historical baseline will be supported by SAC. It means to involved all experts along with the milestones of the WP3 development. The same approach is performed at regional level for the production of local Great Atlantic Explorations multimedia.

Scientific support for the development of the project AI-based tool. Collaboration of the Scientific Advisory Committee addresses the development of an AI tool for the promotion of the Great Atlantic Explorations Cultural Route. The tool requests the previous identification of scientific data and images of reference and SAC will establish all pertinent fields data and procedure for data implementation.
